Glossaryexpressions and names used in this page

Allegro in C Major, K.1b
The Allegro in C Major (K.1b) from Wolfgang – just like K.1a – was also given to his sister, Maria-Anna-Walburga-Ignatia, for family performances...

Maria-Anna was better known under the name of Nannerl: consult Amadeus in 1756 to see more about her.
Andante in C Major, K.1a
Thus the musical piece composed by the little Mozart whereas he was only 5 years old!

To listen to this small piece, start its reading in the media unit at the bottom of the in diretta section.

It is very likely that Leopold – Wolfgang's father – transcribed what would be his very first composition here.
Erasures...
Sayings of his sister: “Wolfgang made such progress that, in his fifth year, he already composed small pieces that he played for his father which were translated on paper by this latter”.

These erasures, just like for other sections of the score, would thus not be those of Wolfgang but of his father.
Father's annotation
The annotation in the score left margin (K.1a) is from Leopold Mozart – Wolfgang's father. It says that the pieces of this score “were composed by Wolfgang in the third month of his fifth year”.

We are thus towards the beginning of 1761.
Salzburg
Salzburg counted 10,000 inhabitants, all Catholics since 1733, whereas last Lutheran Protestants had fled to Prussia. At the time of Mozart, one inhabitant of Salzburg out of five relied on the Court to survive.
